Police have to carry criminal out of Athens library

By Joe Johnson

Kenya Lavine Taylor would not go quietly when police were arresting him at county library on Baxter Street so they had to carry him out.

Taylor was a wanted criminal in Barrow County where there was a probation violation warrant for his arrest stemming from an aggravated assault conviction.

The 47-year-old homeless man came to the attention of police on the afternoon of September 8th when a staff member reported that he was on the second floor using a computer after having been previously barred from the library.

While officers were trying to take Taylor into custody He resisted and stiffened his body so that the officers had to pick him up to carry him down the stairs and out of the library to a police car.

During the ride to jail Taylor reportedly yelled, spit, and threatened to murder the officer who was driving.

When he threatened to kick out a window the officer pulled over and stopped so that he could place Taylor in restraints.

Taylor was booked into the jail on the local charges of obstruction and making terroristic threats.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office placed a hold on his release.
