Public input sought for design of county judicial center

From the Athens-Clarke County government:
Athens-Clarke County’s Capital Projects Department invites residents to provide general feedback on the exterior and interior design of the new Judicial Center, which will be located at 120 W. Dougherty Street in downtown Athens.
An open-ended comment form, along with several design images for reference, is available at www.accgov.com/judicialcenter through Sunday, August 9. ACCGov is particularly interested in feedback related to the exterior appearance of the building and interior public gathering spaces, as well as any guiding principles that residents feel should be incorporated into the design process.
Online comments and the in-person input that was received at a public meeting held at the site on June 30, 2026, will help inform the design team as the project moves forward.
The Judicial Center project’s overall estimated budget is $225 million. The current tentative timeline calls for planning and design over the next 18 months with construction of the 218,215 square foot building to begin by early 2028 with completion by early 2030.
Additional public information and engagement opportunities will take place throughout the project timeline. The project website at www.accgov.com/judicialcenter contains project documents, a presentation with the concept layout, videos of prior Mayor and Commission meetings discussing the topic, and over 30 answered Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the facility.
