The following was released by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department
On October 8, 2025, ACCPD investigated a shooting around 10:40 A.M. in the area of the Clarke
County Courthouse in downtown Athens. A Clarke County Sheriff’s Office Deputy heard a gunshot and
observed individuals running from the area. Officers responded and located a shell casing.
Through our partnership with ACC businesses, the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) was able to access
cameras, locate the suspect, and follow their movement to the Athens Transit Multimodal Center
where they boarded a bus. Detectives were able to identify the subjects which led them to a location
where they were detained. Of those involved, Ladainian Rainwater, an 18-year-old male of Athens,
Georgia, was arrested in the 100 block of Sycamore Dr. He was charged with Aggravated Assault,
Possession of a Firearm in Commission of Certain Crimes, Reckless Conduct, Battery and Unlawful for
Persons Employ/Associate with Criminal Street Gang to Participate in Criminal Activity.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information or tips regarding this incident should
