Science fact of the day: African Pancake Tortoises have unusual shells

Unlike most tortoises, African Pancake Tortoises do not have hard, domed shells. Instead, theirs are thin and flat (hence their name) and do not offer much protection.

To evade predators, African Pancake Tortoises use speed and flexibility rather than relying on their shells for sanctuary.
