Baltimore Orioles enjoy sweet foods and can often be attracted to visit backyards with slices of sweet fruits, dollops of grape jelly, or well-stocked hummingbird feeders.
When eating sweet fruits and berries, these birds are known to practice an unusual eating technique called gaping — they insert their beak into the food, spread it out to create a tunnel, and then use their tongues to lap up the sweet juices.
