Science fact of the day: The Arctic Ocean Is the World’s Smallest Ocean

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest of Earth’s 5 ocean basins. It is roughly 1.5x as large as the United States and its average depth is 3,953 ft.

For most of the year, the Arctic Ocean is almost completely covered in ice and its average temperature rarely rises above freezing.
