Science fact of the day: Virginia opossums are the only marsupials in North America

Virginia Opossums (Didelphis virginiana) are the only marsupials found north of Mexico. They can be found east of the Rocky Mountains as well as farther north, occupying a territory that extends into Ontario, Canada.

They can also be found along the American West Coast and in British Columbia, Canada. They live in a variety of habitats and can handle various elevation levels ranging from lowlands to 3,000 meters above sea level.
