Sheriff: body found in pond believed to be That of missing Winder man

By Joe Johnson

A body found floating in a pond last week appeared to be that of a Winder man who had been missing since mid-September, according to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith.

Smith said the body found Oct. 2 in a pond off Booth Circle in Winder appeared to that of 25-year-old Winder resident Andrew Nicolas House.

“We believe (that’s who) it was, but the GBI hasn’t confirmed that,“ Smith said Wednesday morning.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.

On Sept. 18 the sheriff’s office issued a lookout for House, who was reported missing by his father two days warlier.

He reportedly was last seen Sept. 16, near a gas station at the intersection of state highways 82 and 211, less than a mile from the pond where the unidentified man’s body was found.
