Students invited to apply for Athens Mayor’s Youth Council

Released by the Athens-Clarke County government:

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) is seeking applications by Sunday, August 17 from current 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who are interested in taking part in the Mayor's Youth Council. Eligible students can attend public or private schools or be homeschooled, but must be Athens-Clarke County residents.

Council members attend monthly meetings and participate in periodic service activities, adding up to a time commitment of around four hours/month. This program is not affiliated with the Clarke County School District or student government.

The Mayor's Youth Council is designed to encourage effective youth engagement in Athens-Clarke County and provide an opportunity for youth to learn more about the workings of ACCGov while interacting directly with staff.

Applications should be submitted online at www.accgov.com/youthcouncil. Selected applicants will be interviewed in late August, with the first council meeting happening in September.

For more information on the Mayor's Youth Council, please contact Cecile Riker in the Athens-Clarke County Communications Department at cecile.riker@accgov.com or 706-613-3795.
