Teen tells police his two wounds were from one gunshot

On the afternoon of April 8th police responded to University Oaks apartments on a report that a 16-year-old boy had been accidentally shot while cleaning a gun.

The first officer to arrive at the scene provided aid to the teen for a wound to his lower abdomen and another to his right bicep.

“(The teen) stated to me that he was attempting to clean the gun and it went off,” the officer wrote in his report of the incident. “Based on the wounds I did not think that this was possible.”

The officer further indicated that the gun in question was a rifle that didn’t have an ammo magazine, and that he was unable to locate a firearm cleaning kit in the apartment.

The ten was transported by ambulance to the hospital, and the apartment was secured for further examination by forensics technicians.
