Two metro-Athens men were killed Friday night in a two-vehicle collision in Jackson County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers from GSP Post 32 in Athens were dispatched at about 10:25 p.m. to U.S. Highway 441 at State Road 334 on Commerce Georgia to investigate a crash involving two fatalities.

The investigation determined a 1971 Dodge Dart driven by Kevin Todd Davis, 46, of Lula and occupied by 44-year-old Jody Garrett of Danielsville was travelling north on 441 when Davis failed to yield the right-of-way to a southbound van when making a left turn onto South Elm Street.

The van, driven by Alaina Sneed, 20, of Commerce collided with the car’s passenger side, injuring both occupants, who died after being transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, the GSP said. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt according to the patrol.

Sneed sustained minor injuries and declined to be taken to the hospital, the patrol noted.

“Troopers are investigating if alcohol was a factor in the crash,” the GSP said Saturday afternoon.
