Two students injured in crash involving school bus driven by Winder man

By Joe Johnson

Two students this week were injured when the school bus they were on was involved in a crash in Hall County, officials said.

The bus reportedly was being driven by 61-year-old Billy R. Leonard of Winder.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers at 7:42 a.m. Wednesday responded to a reported crash on Atlanta Highway outside of Oakwood, where a 2019 Toyota Corolla driven by 34-year-old Charnell Haymond of Powder Springs failed to yield to a northbound school bus when turning left at the intersection with Interstate 985.

The car collided with the Hall County School District bus, GSP said, and two of four students from West Hall Middle School who were on board were slightly injured and transported to the hospital.

Leonard, the bus driver, was not injured.
