A University of Georgia gunfire detection system recently alerted police to shots being fired at a housing complex next to campus.
Athens-Clarke County police were notified early the evening of August 15th that the ShotSpotter system had detected nine gunshots in the area of Parkview Homes.
Upon arrival police were told by a resident that he heard the gunfire near his apartment then saw someone running.
When police searched the area they found several 9mm shell casings.
No injuries or property damage was reported.
