By Joe Johnson

A University of Georgia student reported Wednesday that she had been raped, according to Athens-Clarke County police

According to a police report, the rape occurred between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The 18-year-old student initially reported to UGA police that she had been assaulted on university property, according to the report, but after further investigation it was determined that the incident had occurred in the jurisdiction of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

A UGPD officer drove the student to the Family Protection Center for an interview and forensic exam, according to the report.

Athens-Clarke police Public Information Officer Lt. Shaun Barnett said that the student was acquainted with the suspect, but he did not know if the suspect also attended UGA.

The incident location was in the 900 block of South Milledge Street, which is lined with sorority and fraternity houses, but Barnett said he could disclose the exact location of a sexual assault.
