Watkinsville man killed in Jackson Co. three-vehicle wreck

A Watkinsville man was killed Wednesday in a three-vehicle wreck in Commerce.

Luis Montanez Villafane, 71, was killed when the Honda CRV he was driving collided head-on with a U-Haul box truck, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The GSP said the CRV had been traveling south on Homer Road behind a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 37-year-old Commerce woman.

As the Tahoe slowest to make a left turn, the GSP said, the CRV crossed the double yellow line to pass, but it reportedly swerved and struck the SUV before running into the box truck.

The CRV then overturned and slid on its roof.

Villafane was pronounced dead at the scene.

The box truck was driven by a 26-year-old Winder woman.

There was no information about anyone being charged.
