A judge has denied bail to an Athens woman who was arrested after crashing her car into Kroger on Alps Road, injuring several employees and shoppers,
Following a January 28th hearing in Superior Court, Judge H. Patrick denied the woman’s request for bail on the grounds that if released from jail she would pose a significant threat to the community and likely commit additional crimes.
Authorities say that 41-year-old Lonneshia Appling was high on methamphetamine the morning of December 16th when she crashed her car into Kroger. The most seriously injured victim was a a store mployee whose skull was fractured.
Appling is a career criminal whose extensive rap sheet includes felony shoplifting convictions for stealing from supermarkets like Kroger.
She was arrested on warrants one week after the incident on charges of DUI drugs, reckless driving, and causing serious injuries with a vehicle.
While the charges filed by police do not address any possible intent by Appling to purposely crash into the building, the matter continues to be investigated prior to it being presented to a grand jury for consideration of any additional charges.
