Woman who crashed car into Athens Kroger indicted for aggravated assault

An Athens woman has been indicted on aggravated assault charges for injuring victims when she intentionally crashed her car into the Kroger on Alps Road three months ago.

Lonneshia Shafaye Appling, 40, of Dudley Drive, was high on a combination of fentanyl and methamphetamine on the morning of December 16th when her car plowed into the supermarket, according to the 12-count indictment filed in Superior Court on Tuesday.

The most seriously injured victim was a Kroger employee whose skull was fractured, and the other victim was a customer whose injuries included a lacerated arm,

According to police reports, Appling had sat in her car outside of Kroger on Alps Road for several minutes before she suddenly accelerated and crashed the vehicle through the entrance doors and into a checkout area,

A known shoplifter with an extensive criminal history Appling was heard after the crash repeatedly saying, “He ruined my life.”

She remains at the county jail without bail and is to be arraigned next month,
