An Athens man was arrested Friday for allegedly shooting at a car that was driving on a street downtown two weeks ago, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Brandon Cobbs, 24, of Woodridge Circle was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, police said.

According to police, Cobbs was the person who on Feb. 26 fired shots from a handgun at a black sedan that was driving on East Clayton Street near College Avenue.

No one was injured in the incident.

Earlier this week police publicly released a surveillance camera photo of the alleged shooter and announced a cash reward for information that led to the suspect being identified.

However, “Cobbs was identified by investigative measures not related to the released photos or reward," said Lt. Shaun Barnett, ACCPD’s public information officer.

After the shooting, Cobbs was later picked up by someone driving a white van, according to police.

Surveillance camera images of the van used in connection with a shooting in downtown Athens on Feb. 26.

That person remained unidentified, and the investigation was ongoing.

Police asked for anyone with information regarding the shooting, or has any video from the area of the shooting when it occurred to contact Detective Hovie Lister at 762-400- 7333 or hovie.lister@accgov.com.
