Athens library author book discussion

Minneapolis author Dr. Steven E. Mayer, PhD,  will visit the Athens-Clarke County Library Sunday,  Feb. 1 at 3:00 pm. to discuss and sign copies of his  timely new memoir, My Father Against the Nazis.

In the book, Mayer has pieced together five generations of his family's haunting and heroic story through recovered documents, legal papers, and an intercontinental passage of discovery. With expert historical analysis and personal  family experiences, Mayer (an organization psychologist) explores many relevant topics in the book including:

·         The intergenerational trauma faced by many Jewish families and others persecuted by authoritarian governments and warfare. 

·         Questions about the cycles of history leading to authoritarianism, conflict and war, while drawing some parallels to the alarming similarities between then and now. 

·         A son's long journey to understand his difficult father through biographical and memoir writing.
