Cedar Shoals students sent home after bathroom fire

By Joe Johnson

On Wednesday morning a fire was intentionally set in a student bathroom in the main building at Cedar Shoals High School, according to the Clarke County School District.

A student who was seen entering and leaving the bathroom was detained, according to Athens-Clarke County police.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but not before sprinklers were activated, causing smoke to fill the building, the school district said in a media release ."Students were safely moved to the gym and fine arts building, which were not affected by the fire,"according to the release. "As a result of this situation, we decided to dismiss all classes reportedly immediately and send students home to finish their day asynchronously."

The school district will be providing updates on its website and Facebook page as they become available, and also communicating updates to our families. The school district expects to make a decision on whether the school can reopen for instruction later today.

I am not surprised at the recent Ga DOE test scores. Cedar Shoals 46% Content Mastery. 73% graduation rate. These are abysmal scores.

Hard to do real school when you are setting your bathrooms on fire. SMH
