Downtown Athens shooter formally charged with second murder

The Jackson County man who shot three people in downtown Athens has been charged with a second count of murder following the death of another of his victims.

Mark Anthony DeSousa committed the murders In the early morning hours of March 14th, when he shot a friend and two other young men in a parking lot off North Jackson Street.

Clayton Adams, 22, of Hull, died at the scene and when Desousa was arrested later that day in Jackson County he was charged with the young man’s murder.

Dylan Bentley, 19, of Jefferson, died in the hospital the following day, and on March 17th police served Desousa with a warrant that states he “knowingly and intentionally did with malice aforethought shoot and kill Dylan Bentley, a human being..”

The third victim is 20-year-old Landon Skinner, who police said was shot in the face by Desousa. He remains in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where doctors were unable to save one of his eyes.
