Elderly Athens woman chokes to death on bread

A 72-year-old woman recently died in her home from choking on a piece of bread.

Police officers responded to her Old Jeffrson Road residence the evening of January 17 on a report that CPR was being performed after attempts to use the Heimlich maneuver had failed.

A police report noted that firefighters and EMS personnel were on the scene when the woman was pronounced dead at 8:26 p.m.
