GBI: Man and woman found shot dead in Walton County were transients

By Joe Johnson

A man and woman whose bodies were found this week in Social Circle were transients who had been staying in the Walton County area for several days before they were shot to death, said Nelly Miles, public affairs director for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

According to the GBI, James Robert Evans, 27, and Jaymine Whitlock, 32 had been fatally shot prior to their bodies being found early Friday morning on the side of Thurman Baccus Road.

“What we can say about where these victims are from is that Evans had connections to Hoschton in the past. Whitlock may have had some connections to Gainesville at one point,” Miles said.

“They have been described to us as transients in recent months, and we know from our work that they were staying in Walton County for the last several days at least.” she said.

The GBI called the probe into the apparant double homicide an active and ongoing investigation, and urged anyone with information concerning the case to contact Social Circle police Investigator Michael Jett at (770) 464-5906 or the GBI at 1-800-597-8477.
