Jaiden Danarion Grant, 20, of Hull, was arrested this week for allegedly strangling his former girlfriend in her home on Macon Highway.
The 20-year-old victim told police that she had ended her relationship with Grant in January and that on the night of March 18th he showed up at her apartment telling her that he missed her and professing his love.
The woman told Grant that she wasn’t interested in getting back together and asked him to leave.
Grant did leave but quickly returned, she told police, at which time he allegedly cornered the woman in the kitchen where he slapped the dragged her to the bedroom and chocked her to the point of nearly passing out.
The victim said she managed to fight off Grant and grabbed a can of pepper spray then he left when she again told him to.
As soon as Grant left, the woman armed herself with a knife and locked herself in the bathroom and called 911.
With police officers present, the woman received a phone call from Grant and the officers heard him admitting to choking her.
“I’m sorry that wasn’t me, it was out of my character,” the officers heard Grant say.
“You were disrespecting me to my face, “ he continued, “and it all got out of hand.”
Grant was arrested by deputies in Madison County and returned to Athens where he was charged with aggravated assault and battery.
The victim was transported for treatment at St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was released from jail two days later upon posting bonds totaling $5,000.
His bail was made conditional on Grant being barred from Athens-Clarke County except for court appearances.
