Police officers make surprise holiday deliveries to Athens residents

ree

The following was released today by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department

On November 29, 2025, ACCPD received a call regarding packages on a sidewalk in a neighborhood that appeared to have been dropped by a delivery driver. Upon arrival, ACCPD officers located about 70 packages with varying addresses in the Athens area. They contacted the delivery service (which we will not name) and made them aware of the situation. Officers were informed that the delivery driver had quit their shift and left the packages, and that they would not be sending anyone out to retrieve them. Officers were also told they could donate or discard the packages, and that the delivery company would replace them for customers. Our officers are dedicated to serving their community and understand the frustration customers would feel when their packages do not arrive.

Our officers decided to take matters into their own hands. They collected the 70-plus packages, split them among themselves, and set out to deliver them! An officer hand-delivered each package from Midnight's West patrol. Sergeant Cooper stated, "We knew that a lot of people worked hard for the packages, and the right thing to do was to play delivery services/Santa."

We are proud of the integrity and commitment our officers have.
