Police shoot murder suspect

The following has been released by the Gwinnett County Police Department

(Buford, Ga., Sept. 24, 2026) – The Gwinnett County Police Department assisted in a multi-agency investigation involving the U.S. Marshals Service and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office in the 1900 block of Binnies Way.

Gwinnett County Police officers responded to assist with law enforcement activity at the residence involving 35-year-old Kean Wiggins, who was wanted in connection with a murder investigation in New York.

During the initial encounter, Wiggins fired at least one shot at officers on scene. An adult female located at the residence was also taken into custody and charged with Harboring a Fugitive.

Several hours later, officers located Wiggins in the area, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. No officers were struck by gunfire. Wiggins was struck by gunfire and sustained at least one gunshot wound. Once the scene was secured, officers immediately rendered medical aid, and Wiggins was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Wiggins and the female are both in custody, and there is no known ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting.
