Second victim dies after triple shooting in downtown Athens

The following was released Sunday evening by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department:
On March 15, 2026, a second victim, Dylan Bentley, a 19-year-old male of Jefferson, GA,
succumbed to his injuries. The third victim remains in critical condition at this time.

An arrest has been made in connection with the triple shooting and murder of
Clayton Adams.
Mark Desousa, a 22-year-old male of Jefferson, GA, has been
arrested and charged with Malice Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Aggravated
Battery. The two victims are still seeking medical care and remain in critical
condition.
ACCPD appreciates the partnership of the GBI, District Attorney’s Office, Clarke
County Sheriff’s Office, FBI Safe Streets, FBI Atlanta Field Division, and the Jackson
County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this case.

ACCPD Investigates Triple Shooting
On March 14, 2026, at approximately 2:20 AM, ACCPD officers responded to a report of a
shooting in a parking lot of the 400 block of North Jackson Street.
The investigation determined three individuals were shot during the incident. One victim,
Clayton Adams, a 22-year-old male of Hull, GA, is deceased. Two other victims are being treated
at a local hospital and are in critical condition.This is an active investigation. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to
