A Riveting Portrait of “Mr. Civil Rights”

Featuring Michael Anthony Tatmon as Thurgood Marshall and directed by Prodan DimovTHURGOOD offers audiences a stirring and deeply human portrait of one of America’s most transformative leaders. The play captures Marshall’s courageous journey — from his early days as a civil rights lawyer challenging segregation in Brown v. Board of Education to his historic appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, where he upheld the principles of justice, equality, and democracy.

With warmth, humor, and intellect, this remarkable performance invites audiences to witness the story of a man whose life’s work forever changed the course of American history. In an era marked by renewed debates over justice and equality, THURGOOD resonates powerfully, reminding us of the ongoing struggle to preserve the Constitution’s promise for all.

The Holsey Fund honors Lucius Henry Holsey, founder of Paine College, who was born enslaved in Athens. Inspired by the college-town’s spirit of learning, Holsey became a bishop in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and went on to establish schools and churches across the South, including Paine College in Augusta in 1882.
