Athens family displaced by fire that destroyed home

A family was displaced Thursday night by a fire that destroyed their home at an eastside trailer park.

According to Mark Melvin, assistant chief of the Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services Department,

According to Melvin, firefighters responded to a 10:34 p.m. report of flames shooting from the windows of a home at the Winterville Mobile Home Park at 2025 Winterville Road.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found that all occupants had safely escaped from the burning structure, Melvin said.

Even so, firefighter conducted an interior attack on the fire and performed primary and secondary searches for any victims, the assistant fire chief.

No firefighters were injured, he said.

Melvin said the cause of the fire continued to be investigated Friday afternoon.

The home was a total loss and the residents were temporarily relocated by the Northeast Georgia Region of the American Red Cross, according to Melvin.
