An Athens has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl several years ago.

Jose Louis Godoy, 58, of Pinewood Estates North, was charged on Thursday with three counts of rape, four counts of child molestation, and one count of simple battery, all under the state Family Violence Act, according to the Clarke County Jail website.

Athens-Clarke County police Lt. Shaun Barnett said that Godoy was arrested as the result of an investigation that began on Jan. 11, when police "received a report of a rape that was said to have happened approximately four or five years ago," with the exact date being unknown.

“Investigation indicated that on at least two separate occasions (Godoy) made the victim touch his penis and had carnal knowledge of the victim at locations in Athens-Clarke County,” said Barnett, who is the police department’s public information officer.
