Child seriously injured by pit bull dog in Madison County

A 3-year-old girl is missing a piece of her face following a Christmas Day attack by a pit bull dog in Madison County.

The attack occurred in a home on Amberly Drive in Hull, where the child was visiting with her biological mother and the mother's boyfriend, to whom the dog belonged, according to an incident report from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

The toddler's adoptive mother lives in Dacula.

The incident report indicates that when deputies arrived at the scene, the boyfriend recounted about how he saw his dog knock down the child and get on top of her, biting her face.

After pulling the dog off of the little victim, the man put it in a cage and locked it in a room, according to the report.

The child was transported by Madison County EMS to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, and the dog was voluntarily surrendered by its owner and later euthanized, according to the report.

" From what I understand the child was probably going to require some type of plastic or reconstructive surgery but nothing was life threatening," said Madison County sheriff's Capt. Jimmy Patton.
