From the Barrow County Fire Department:
Barrow County Fire Department A-Shift recently responded to a residential structure fire with heavy smoke and fire showing from the residence upon arrival. Crews immediately initiated an aggressive interior fire attack and worked quickly to bring the fire under control.
During firefighting operations, crews were advised that pets were possibly still inside the home. Firefighters conducted a search and located two cats in critical condition. Thankfully, all Barrow County Fire apparatus are equipped with Pet Oxygen masks, and crews immediately began administering oxygen to both animals. Because of the quick actions and dedication of our firefighters, both cats made a recovery while still on scene.

Barrow County Animal Control also responded to assist with the care of the animals. One of the most rewarding moments of the incident came when the homeowner was reunited with their pets after being told they were stable. Their relief and excitement meant everything to the crews on scene.
The fire was successfully extinguished, and while the home sustained damage, the homeowners should be able to recover some of their personal belongings.
This incident is a reminder that our job is not just about fighting fire — it is about protecting lives, families, and even the four-legged members of those families. Great job to everyone involved for their professionalism, teamwork, and compassion. Proud of A-Shift and all assisting personnel.
