Athens woman charged with trying to smuggle contraband into prison

An Athens woman was recently charged with conspiring to smuggle contraband into the Floyd County Prison last month.

According to local news reports, 30-year-old Emmika Kassha Watson on Jan. 27 attempted to drop off more than three ounces of marijuana and cellphones at the East View Cemetery, allegedly to be later picked up and smuggled into the prison, possibly by a prison work detail.

Watson is accused of conspiring to provide over three ounces of marijuana as well as cellphones to a person at the Floyd County Prison in January, acording to the reports, which were confirmed by Floyd County Chief Deputy Tommy McGuire.

She was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, computer use of a communication facility in the commission of a felony involving a controlled substance and items prohibited by an inmate, according to McGuire.

She was released on a $10,100 bond.
