A pair of armed masked thieves robbed employees at an online convenience store late Friday night, Athens-Clarke County police said. The armed robbery occurred at about 11:20 p.m. at GoPuff, on online service that makes home deliveries of convenience store goods from a warehouse in the 1900 block of Commerce Road.

Police did not release details of the robbery, but the police incident report listed two smartphones with a total value of $900 as the only items stolen. The amount of cash taken in the robbery was redacted from the report.

Jermine Lassiter was one of four employees at the warehouse at the time of the robbery. One of the robbers displayed a gun and demanded, “Open the safe and give me all the money or we’ll beat your ass,” the 31-year-old Athens resident said.

The suspects got away with more than $7,000, according to Lassiter.

He said the robbers were black males who had shirts wrapped around their heeds to conceal their faces. They took the cellphones, which police later recovered, to prevent employees from calling 911, Lassiter said.
