Pedestrian killed on Athens Perimeter

A pedestrian reportedly was killed early Friday when struck by a vehicle on the Athens Perimeter.

The incident happened on a section of the highway's outer loop between North Chase Street and Prince Avenue, according to a Nixie alert that was issued at 12:43 a.m. by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

County Coroner Sonny Wilson said the victim was identified as 59-year-old John Patrick Clark, who is believed to have been homeless.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department said that Clark was struck by a 1990 Honda Accord that was driven by 43-year-old Michael Sorrells.

No charges resulted from the collision, but police said that the incident continued to be investigated.
