Two men were arrested over the weekend for trying to break into a home in the 500 block of Willow Street, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

The report indicates that officers responded to the house at 3:44 a.m. Saturday on a report of a burglary in progress there.

“Officer arrived on the scene and made contact with all individuals involved in this incident,” according to the report, which noted that a back door had been damaged.

The house was occupied at the time by four people, ranging in age from 18 to 33, according to the report.

The two suspects who were arrested were identified by police as Tyler Lee Barnett, 21, of Danielsville and Waylon Mac Brown, 22 of Bowman in Elbert County.

The report did not indicate that anything was stolen.

Both suspects were initially booked into jail for first-degree burglary.

At a bond hearing that afternoon, a Magistrate Court judge reduced Barnett’s charge to criminal trespass/unlawful entry to property and released on a $2,500 good security bond.

Brown’s charge remained the same at the hearing and was granted a $5,000 bond.
