Scenes from the the police beat

Life as a police reporter sure was different back in the day.

Before the police department transitioned from an analog radio dispatch system to the current encrypted digital system, we could monitor events as they happened. Oftentimes I would arrive at crime scenes even before many of the officers.

While that had obvious news benefits, it also resulted in long hours at incidents as they unfolded and in their aftermath. It provided time to interact with the officers and get to know them as people, and for them to hopefully see that reporters aren’t so bad after all.

I also had the opportunity to take many photos of the emergency responders as they performed their important duties for our community.
